I went on herbmentor.com because I had an email from them talking about their culinary herbalism class (which I so desperately want to take) and I decided to just read up on the herb of the month which is lemon balm. I had learned many things about this plant before. It is often called Melissa because its name is Melissa officinalis, and I love that because to me it seems to be such a feminine herb because of the light, crisp, lemony taste that it has. So, upon reading about this wonderful plant in the mint family I decided to make me some lemon balm tea because of course I have this dried in my herb cupboard. It tastes so delightful and immediately I felt my body begin to heat up...and then I got a little sleepy. I learned through my Rosemary Gladstar curriculum that this is a nervine which relaxes your nerves and can make you sleepy. It is also great for teething babies...which I have two at the moment! In times past I have made popsicles out of lemon balm tea but today I just had the babies drink the tea. They loved it and I loved it so much that I made me another large cup, which is brewing right now. In the meantime I am drinking an emergen-C cuz I came across them hidden in my pantry a couple days ago. Anyhow I remembered that lemon balm is good for anxiety and times of stress. It helped me feel happier! It has been said that it chases away melancholy, which is good for me because I sure can be a fusser sometimes. It is also anti-viral, and can be used to heal cold sores. It can be a cure for scorpion stings, which is good to know for us because we seem to have a problem with those pesky guys around here by Black Mountain. So, for those of you suffering from stress or melancholy or you just need something to help relax you I encourage you to get some lemon balm going in your garden for times when you need some therapy. It surely helps me!
Another thing I want to share with you is some ideas I have for snacks while we are on the road this coming week. I plan to carry a little cooler full of water bottles and I am going to make some tuna salad sandwiches, pb&j's, deviled eggs, and carry a few other snacks like animal crackers, fruit snacks, Larabar granola bars, almonds, cheese sticks, veggies and hummus, pumpkin seeds, yogurt, and cheerios. Sure beats a big mac at that super cool Mcdonalds in Barstow;) Do you have any travel snacking ideas for me? Thanks for the input and I hope you are all having a beautiful Monday!
One last thought I saw Joyce Meyer post on facebook today and I would like to share with you also that "If you simply believe that God loves you and wants to bless you, you will see good things happen in your life." And I truly believe this to be true! Jesus loves you:)
